Kansas City Baseball Club Inc. stock certificate, dated February 11, 1933, signed by Tris Speaker as secretary of the club. The certificate certifies that "Bill Rodgers" is owner of seventy-five shares of Common Capital Stock of the Kansas City Baseball Club, Inc. The club's official embossed seal appears in the lower left corner. Speaker has signed the certificate in black fountain pen (grading 9/10) along the base. Also signed by the President of the club and Bill Rodgers on the reverse. Marked "Cancelled" in black fountain pen vertically on the front of the certificate.
Tris Speaker was manager of the Kansas City Blues during the 1930s, during which time he also enjoyed minority ownership of the club. While the name Bill Rodgers is a common one, Speaker was teammates with a Bill Rodgers on the 1915 Boston Red Sox, and he may be the investor listed here. The certificate (11x8.5") displays two vertical folds and the original corresponding stock-register receipt, which is also signed by Rodgers, has been affixed to the certificate along the left border.
