Offered is one of the most unusual Jackie Robinson handwritten letters we have seen because it was written to a high school student and was then turned in as part of the student's term paper. In 1950, the student, Keith Kendig, wrote a term paper titled "Racial Strife." As part of the assignment, he was then required to write to one of the personal references in his paper. Given the topic, he wrote to Jackie Robinson, who was kind enough to respond. In Robinson's letter, undated, on "Hotel Flint" (Forth Worth, Texas) letterhead, he informs the student that he can not be of much help to him. In full: "Dear Keith, I wish I could help you on your paper but there is nothing that has happened to me along those lines that you could use. Baseball and the people in it have been exceptional so there really is nothing I can say to help except I sincerely hope you get the best grade possible. Sincerely, Jackie Robinson." Both the signature and text have been scripted in blue ink and grade 9/10 overall. The letter (7.5x7.5"), which has been affixed to the last page of the term paper, display a horizontal fold, a few edge tears, and a few areas of discoloration. In Good condition overall. Included is the complete term paper that the student submitted, for which he received an "A." Full LOA from JSA.
