Index card flawlessly signed in black fountain pen by Hall of Fame second baseman Johnny Evers, who made up one third of the Cubs' legendary double-play combination Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance. PSA has encapsulated the card and graded the signature GEM MINT 10. The signature of Johnny Evers is among the scarcest of all prewar Hall of Famers, mainly due to timing. Evers was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1946, but he died on March 28, 1947, thereby giving Hall of Fame autograph collectors fewer than eight months to acquire his signature. High-grade examples are rarer still, and this is easily one of the finest Evers signatures we have seen. This card is part of a much larger signature collection compiled by our consignor's father in the late 1940s ("The New England Autograph Collection"). All the items from the collection are featured in thirty-one separate lots in this auction, including many prominent Hall of Famer autographs. The index card (5x3") displays Evers' typewritten name along the top border and a tiny diagonal crease in the upper left corner; otherwise it is in Near Mint condition.
