Game ball commemorating a win by the Saskatchewan Roughriders over the BC Lions (Canadian League) in 1954. This ball originates from the personal collection of Cleveland Browns Hall of Fame wide receiver Mac Speedie and has been consigned to this auction directly by a family member. It is one of twenty lots from the Mac Speedie Collection offered in this auction, all of which were just recently on public display at the National Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The Spalding "Official" football is lettered "1954 Regina 14 Vancouver 0" in white paint on a side panel. (Regina was home to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, while Vancouver was home to the BC Lions.) Mac Speedie jumped from the Cleveland Browns to the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Western Interprovincial Football Union in 1953. He played with the club in both 1953 and 1954 before being traded to the BC Lions in 1955. Unfortunately, Speedie suffered a serious knee injury in 1955 which ended his professional career. The ball is moderately deflated and displays heavy wear, including abrasions, scuffs, and scratches.
