1. One of the earliest racing associations in the U.S. was the National Jockey Club that inaugurated the Washington D.C. race course in 1835. Presented is an historic and extremely rare silk ribbon relic. A horse to the left appears along with the names of the president, treasurer & secretary. President Sprigg was a former governor of Maryland. We can date this item from 1834 to 1836 as those are the start & end dates of the treasurer Y. N. Oliver's reign. He left after the fall meet of 1836 to inaugurate the famous racetrack at New Orleans. 2. An admission silk badge dated Spring 1872. It was for entry to the quarter stretch and the the beautiful design listed LJC for the Louisiana Jockey Club. Both items are extremely rare and in excellent condition.
