This was the first Super Bowl ever played in February, as the NFL season had been pushed back a week after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The game was tied at 17 when the Rams scored a touchdown with 1:30 left to play in the fourth quarter. With no timeouts left, many thought that the Patriots would not risk mounting a drive from their own territory, but would instead, run out the clock and try to win in overtime. Instead, Patriots' head coach Bill Belichick and Brady went for the win. As Belichick later noted, "With a quarterback like Brady, going for the win was not that dangerous, because he's not going to make a mistake." Belichick was right.
