Original glass plate negative capturing Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson as a member of the New York Giants. Mathewson is pictured in mid windup as he warms up on the sideline prior to a game. In the background a number of players can be seen on the field taking part in pregame activities. Although no year is listed, the uniform style shown here was worn by the Giants only in 1911. Mathewson was still at the top of his game that season, finishing the year with a record of 26-13, and a league-leading 1.99 ERA.
