1922 Christy Mathewson Big Six Indoor Baseball Game, complete with its original box, produced by the Piroxloid Products Corp. of New York. The appeal of this game for collectors has always been the large and attractive box cover. Measuring an impressive 16.5x23", the colorful graphics on the cover feature a large image of Mathewson in uniform set against an illustrated backdrop of the game board. As is the case for most baseball board games from this era, the box is much scarcer than the game components and complete examples are not often seen at auction. The game components consist of the game board (the original spinner remains intact and functional), most of the original pins, and the original sheet containing the printed rosters for all sixteen Major League teams at the time. The playing directions are printed on the underside of the box cover. Both the box cover and base display water staining (mainly along the borders) as well as foxing and numerous tears to the flaps, many of which have been repaired with clear tape. The game board (16x22") displays water staining in the lower left corner and light foxing, but the spinner is complete as issued, with no tears, and no pin holes are displayed. The roster sheet (14x22") is partially intact, with just the Giants roster cut out and a small segment near the base. (The Giants cards accompany the game in their cut-out state.) This is an extremely presentable example of what many consider one of the most attractive baseball board games ever produced.
