Circa early 1970s AFC Pro Bowl jersey worn by Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Andy Russell. The white jersey is lettered "American" across the front and features the number "34" on the front, reverse, and each sleeve. "Russell is lettered on a white nameplate on the reverse above the number. All letters and sleeve numerals are applied in red tackle twill. All front and reverse numerals are applied in red on blue tackle twill. Located on the interior left rear tail are a "Rawlings size 50 label" a tag bearing a red embroidered "L," and a laundry tag. The jersey is all original and displays moderate-to-heavy wear, including several team repairs and light, scattered staining. Given the amount of use and the team repairs, its seems likely that this jersey was worn by Russell in the Pro Bowl on more than one occasion. Russell, of course, was fixture on the AFC Pro Bowl team during the early 1970s.  He made his first appearance in 1968 and then was a regular on the team for six consecutive seasons beginning in 1970. One of the greatest linebackers of his era, Russell was a key member of the Steelers' vaunted "Steel Curtain Defense" and helped lead the team to victories in Super Bowls XI and X. In 1971 he was named the Steelers MVP and today is a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers' Hall of Honor. In 2007 Russell was also named to the Steelers' All-Time Team. Early 1970s Pro Bowl jerseys are scarce, especially those worn by players of Russell's status. This is an outstanding pro football jersey and one that would be among the highlights of any advanced football-jersey or Pittsburgh Steelers collection.
