Pittsburgh Pirates home jersey worn by ace reliever Kent Tekulve during the club's 1979 World Championship season. This is also a scarce style jersey that was used by the Pirates only during the three-year span 1977-1979. The white knit jersey, with gold pinstripes, is lettered "Pirates" across the front and features the number "27" on the left breast and reverse. "Tekulve" is lettered on the reverse above the number. All letters and numerals are applied in black on gold tackle twill. Both a "Descente" label and adjacent laundry tag are located on the left front tail. Directly below is a white strip tag with the jersey number, size and year ("27 40 79") embroidered in black. The jersey is all original and displays moderate wear. Tekulve was one of the top relievers in the game at the time, and a key contributor to the Pirates' success that season. He appeared in a league-high 94 games and finished the year with a 10-8 record, 2.75 ERA, and 31 saves. Tekulve was equally adept in the World Series, appearing in five games and saving three, including both Games 6 and Game 7.  Tekulve retired in 1990 with a 94-90 record, 184 saves, and a 2.85 ERA.
