Large-format team photo of the 1946 Cleveland Browns, champions of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC). 1946 marked the first season in Cleveland Browns franchise history, and also the inaugural season of the AAFC. The photo captures 46 members of the club posing in front of the grandstand, including head coach Paul Brown, Otto Graham (rookie season), Dante Lavelli, Lou Groza, and Lou Saban. All the team members are identified in print along the base. The Browns won the West Division of the AAFC with a record of 12-2 and then defeated the New York Yankees 14-9 in the title game to capture their first league championship in team history. The Browns dominated the AAFC for four seasons before joining the NFL in 1950, where they continued their success by winning three league titles in the next six years. The photo (23x17", visible dimensions), which is printed on cardboard stock, displays a tear in the upper left corner (small amount of surface paper loss), moderate staining (mainly on the white base), a few light creases, and a tack hole at bottom border. In apparent Good condition. Framed to total dimensions of 25x19". Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
