News photo of Hall of Fame pitcher Satchel Paige. Paige is pictured in the clubhouse as he has his arm massaged by Kansas City Monarchs teammate Booker McDaniels. Original photos of Paige during his Negro League career are scarce and this is the only example we have ever seen of this particular image. A newspaper segment that originally captioned this photo has been affixed to the reverse and reads "'Satchel' Paige pitches 150 games a year. Before yesterday's exhibition at Emeryville, Ol' Satch had Booker McDaniels rub his right arm. Paige, has been hurling for 17 seasons, is considered the 'Joe Louis of baseball'." The caption is dated stamped "Nov 22 1943." Handwritten editorial notations also appear on the reverse. The photo measures 8x10 and displays moderate creasing throughout. Very Good condition. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
