An original 6.5x4.5" early 20th century cabinet card of African American boxer Joe Gans. Gans' real name was Joe Gant but his name was misspelled in an early match and he never corrected the mistake. He fought from 1893-1909 for a total of 197 fights. He was the World's Lightweight Champion from 1902-08 and was the first African American Champion crowned in the 20th century. He is most famous for having two boxing bouts in one day and winning both. He is an International Boxing Hall of Fame member and is considered the Greatest Lightweight Boxer of All Time by Ring Magazine. The card is in GD-VG condition with normal rounding corner and staining and some paper loss on reverse. A nice card of this important African American boxing icon.
