Very rare handwritten letter signed by four-time football All American Frank Hinkey, one of only three players to have ever accomplished the feat. The College Football Hall of Famer played end for the dominant Bulldogs' squad from 1891-94, leading them to an incredible 52-1 record during which they outscored beleaguered opponents by a stunning 1,738-25 margin. With William Rhodes' two year reign as head coach ending after the 1894 season, Hinkey's letter refers to the coaching position, mentioning eventual successor Jack Hartwell. Date March 8 1894 on light blue Yale Foot Ball stationery, the 8.5x11" letter has very minor foxing at top with one mailing fold across the middle, grades EX-MT overall with 7/10 writing and signature in ink; this is a very rare signature as the Yale legend died in 1925 at age 55.
