One of the finest pieces of historical boxiana we have offered. Handcarved shell is replete with the three-dimensional carved image of "J.C. Heenan The Benicia Boy" surrounded by two very patriotic American flags. In a cornucopia of natural aquatic color is carved "Fought Tom Sayers for Championship of the World...35 Rounds, 2 Hours, 6 Minutes...April 17th 1860." Appears to have been presented to Heenan based on the quality of the piece and the wording of the inscription. This is not a souvenir. 4" long and NRMT. Came from an "old time" boxing collection. From the colossal draw that first turned boxing into a major international sport.
