The "sister ball" to the other Lou Gehrig signed ball in the auction, this beautiful example has great provenance and a remarkable story.
For decades, this baseball was forgotten (along with its sister ball) in a dresser drawer somewhere in the northeastern United States. Only recently rising from its long slumber, this ball was once the prized possession of our consignor's father. This impressive ball only saw the light of day a few times over the last 70 years when it was proudly shown to members of the family before being quickly put back into it's hiding place.
As the story goes, Bob and Jack Rohrs grew up in White Plains NY and were avid Yankees fans. One day in the early 30's their father George C Rohrs took the boys to Yankee Stadium and were fortunate enough to each come home with a personally inscribed baseball. Jack unfortunately passed away in the 1950's and this keepsake was then given to Bob to take care of.
Official American League (Harridge) Ball, features a beautiful black fountain ink inscription that reads, "To Jack Rohrs - With Kind Regards, Lou Gehrig."
Ball is almost like new, quite white, clean and presents in EX/EX-MT condition with only a slight spot noticed on the blue factory labeling. Just like its "sister ball", this ball is impressive in every way and is a fine example of one of the greatest Yankees to ever take the field.
