Before the Braves moved from Boston to Milwaukee prior to the 1953 season, fans in Brew City followed the fortunes of a minor league team known by the same name as the current Major League club that plays in that town: the Brewers. This vintage uniform belonged to outfielder Joe Abreu, who played 100 games with the American Association team during the 1941 season. His all-original jersey, pants and cap are beautiful to behold, and he signed the jersey in black marker: "Joe Abreu 1941 Milwaukee Brewers." The original Wilson and Burghardt Sporting Goods tags appear inside the collar, with Size 42 indication, though there is only a remnant of a tag on the inside tail. The button-down top features royal blue piping and large red "M" on the right chest, along with large red number 25 on the back. The pants also boast blue piping and contain the same original tagging, Size 38 tag and number 26 in stenciled into the waist band, perhaps referring to a previous player. The royal blue cap features a white "M" and red button on top, while Abreu's signature appears in faded black ink underneath the bill. All the items show great use, including some dirt or blood stains. The original Brewers existed for half a century prior to the Braves' arrival, and Abreu batted .284 with 11 home runs before making his big-league debut the following season for the Cincinnati Reds.
