Offensive lineman Gerry Mullins played his entire nine-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, all within the decade of the '70s, and exclusively at right guard. Here's his 1972 road white jersey that shows terrific use, including evidence of dirt, blood and other staining. There is only one tag attached, and that is the Sand-Knit Size 50 tag on the front tail. The number 72 is stitched in black on the chest, back and shoulders, with MULLINS on the back in gold with black outline. There are a minimum of eight repairs and lots of fraying, especially near the numbers. We have matched this to a game on December 17, 1972, vs. the Chargers (Getty Image #81541424), and it is highly probable that it was worn in several other seasons due to its massive use. One can only imagine how much contact this jersey - as well as the man wearing it - endured.
