The first ever non-USA born athlete to win a Major League MVP award, Zoilio Versalles' twelve-year career included two All-Star berths, two Gold Gloves, and the 1965 AL MVP award. One of the better all-around shortstops of his era, Zorro had three consecutive seasons with thirty doubles and ten triples as well as surprising long ball power for his diminutive size. More importantly, his competitiveness and intangibles helped him ignite his team when he was at the plate, in the field, or on the basepaths. Offered here is Versalles' second-year jersey which was worn during the Washington Senators final season before becoming the Minnesota Twins. The spectacular road gray flannel sports a seven-button front with "Senators" scripted across the chest and "5" on the verso, all sewn-on in midnight navy on fire engine red tackle twill. Originally issued to another athlete, this jersey received a number change when issued to Versalles. Meanwhile there is a delightful team patch sewn on the left sleeve. "Versalles" appears in red chain link on a gray felt swatch in the collar. The outer tail includes a "Spalding" label, "38" size tag, and "Versalles 5 60" in red chain link. The inner tail includes a "Set 1 1960" flap tag and a washing label. The jersey has a team number change, exhibits light wear, remains in exemplary condition, and displays marvelously. More importantly, Versalles' cultural significance as the first Latin MVP winner cannot be overstated.
