Addendum: This sweater has a spalding label inside.
Recently unearthed and fresh to the hobby, this marvelous Yale University hockey sweater was originally found with other Yale memorabilia of the period. It is being consigned by the same individual as the Harvard sweater in this same sale. Two great finds indeed. It is extremely difficult to find sweaters of this period that are definitively hockey. Often, they are quite generic and were used with many other sports such as lacrosse. This true rarity sports an amazing felt crest on front with the Yale "Y" interwoven with crossed hockey sticks. It is heavy wool, has an old-world Scottish highland look to it and is just perfect for frosty games in those chilly Connecticut winters.
Sweaters that are definitively hockey are few and far between. In fact, some years ago we sold a similar Dartmouth sweater with a hockey crest at auction for over $10,000.
