Valued memorabilia from Jackie Robinson and the Brooklyn Dodgers. Here is a check written to famed Dodger Clubhouse man "Senator" John Griffin. The "Senator" was a very large man who loved to have fun by wearing hats, the crazier the better. Griffin is in many Dodger team photos and was a big part of the colorful Ebbets Field scene. Sometimes Robinson would sign checks as "Jackie Robinson," but this check has Robinson's signature, signed as 'Jack R. Robinson," the Hall of Famer's given name, the "R." standing for Roosevelt. The check is made out to John Griffin and has a rare countersigning by Griffin on the back. The check is in the amount of $243.00 and is dated August 21, 1957. This is interesting because Robinson was already retired by then, as he retired in between the 1956 and 1957 seasons. Jackie Robinson was working in New York at the time, and perhaps Griffin had performed a service for the Dodger legend. EX-MT.
