1953 Jackie Robinson signed church program (6.5x8.5") and fellowship card (3x4"). Program signed on cover. Program's cover reads, "Brooklyn Division of the Protestant Council of the City of New York." Signature on card is 9/10, signature on program 8/10 strength. Card also has the signature of Joe Bostic, a very significant African-American journalist, and friend of Jackie Robinson, who worked for years to pressure Major League Baseball in order to ultimately help Robinson break baseball's "color line." Consignor's husband was in attendance when Robinson spoke at the church. The program reports that the church's Interracial Commission reports, "major improvements advancements in interracial relationships at both the national and local level." Hall of Famer Robinson was in mid-Major League career when this card was signed, having hit .308 in 1952 and leading the league in on-base percentage at .440.
