Fascinating seldom seen example of a Colt .45s Spring Training batting practice jacket. The Houston Colt .45s were an expansion team, along with the New York Mets, in the National League in 1962. Surprisingly, the Colt .45s finished in eighth place that year, a good start for an expansion team in a ten-team league. After holding spring training in Arizona in 1962-63, the team switched to Cocoa Beach, Florida for their 1964 spring training. The jacket was given to a young fan by an unknown player in 1964, or possibly 1965. By '65, the team had changed its name to the Houston Astros, so maybe that's why the jacket with the Colts .45 name became expendable. Provenance dating towards the end, or possibly shortly after of the tenure of the .45s name. Jacket appears to be men's size large. In the Colt .45 colors of dark blue and orange. The jacket is mostly blue, with two orange stripes around the waist, and two orange stripes around the neck. On the left breast of the jacket is an embroidered "Colt .45s." Jacket shows some wear with some small areas of stitching slightly loose and some rust on some of the seven metal snaps. Comes with a letter of provenance. Overall good condition.
