Undeniably one of the greatest thoroughbreds in the history of the sport, Secretariat's legacy transcends time. The 1973 Triple Crown winner and two-time Horse of the Year set records that have stood the test of time and will likely never be eclipsed. He shattered records in all three Triple Crown races, which still stand today, and his crowning victory in the 1973 Belmont Stakes by a staggering 31 lengths is one of the greatest accomplishments in American sports history. He retired to stud at Claiborne Farm in the fall of 1973 having been syndicated for over $6 million which, at the time, was the highest value ever placed on a new stallion. This shoe is accompanied with very strong provenance. It is one of two shoes that were presented to Carrie Bridges, a Claiborne Farm employee who held tenure as the head of Horse Records from October 1980 until June 1992. She was handed the two shoes by Bobby Anderson, the stallion manager at Claiborne Farm, shortly after the shoes had been removed from Secretariat by Claiborne Farm farrier Wick Stone. A notarized Letter of Authenticity signed by Carrie Bridges documenting the above events accompanies the shoe. The horseshoe is mounted on a 13x17" solid oak plaque with an 8x10" photo Secretariat at Claiborne Farm along with a custom-made metal presentation placard.
