Al Lopez responds to an inquisitive, typed letter inquiring about the pampering of batters by umpires and the trend to disallow brush-back pitches.  Lopez, in blue ink, while not agreeing, went on to write, "In the days that I played you expected to be brushed back once in a while.  We didn't wear helmets."

Lopez also speaks about Bill Klem having to umpire a little from the side as he was short and, "...catchers were big men in those days."

Lee's comments run the bottom fifth of the page and continue to reverse side where they are signed, "Sincerely, Al Lopez."
