Incredible piece of original art is an early character study of the Lion from Tarzan. Immensely rare piece measures 25x20" and depicts five different scenes including: lion attacking, cocked-head roar, stealth pose, detail of jungle foliage, and basic line art side view. Work is done on very heavy board with Arthur Brown Illustration Board stamp on verso. Unsigned, but is obviously the work of famed comic book illustrator Hal Foster. Unimaginable original inking done as pen & ink study during the prime of the Tarzan series. Some minor chipping and discoloration to the board, but the ink is still strong and bold. Foster apparently used a backing to apply pieces to his strips as evidenced by the remnants on the back. He most likely laid them upside-down, brushed glue on them and applied it to the back. Discovered with tons of other original artwork present in the New Yorker Collection.
