Fascinating old program from one of the earliest football games between Harvard and Yale. The game was played on November 13, 1875, at Hamilton Park and still featured a spherical ball, which can be seen on the program's cover. Rosters from both Harvard and Yale are listed on the inside in an interesting diagonal pattern. At the time the game was played, Yale and Harvard favored divergent styles of football. Yale, along with Columbia, Princeton, and Rutgers, had adopted a uniform set of rules in 1873, while Harvard did not partake in the agreement as they preferred a rugby style that would ultimately be the foundation on which the modern game is built. The referee, judges and goals are all handwritten in an unknown hand. The binding has mild paper loss, but is otherwise EX.
