The 1959 All-Star team packed into a covered wagon traveling to the first ever second-in-one-year All-Star Game. Traveling from Forbes Field to the big "Pension Fund" dollars of Los Angeles Coliseum. Willie Mays blew his "big chance" when his cap didn’t come off during his triple at Pittsburgh. This 17x15" pen and ink was a published piece in the Sporting News and auctioned by them several years back. One of the most important yet unsung baseball artists, Ray Gotto was creator of immortal baseball comic books "Ozark Ike" and "Cotton Woods." His high point was his work for the Sporting News, of which this piece was one. Ray was paid $1,000 for his creation of the New York Mets skyline logo which has remained virtually unchanged to this day. Ray died penniless in 2003, the billion-dollar team refusing multiple requests for aid.
