Engaging piece is a series of visual vignettes of the '62 season: Dick Stuart "225-foot" homer lost in the Cubs bullpen by Billy Williams, Bob Cerv fails to score from second on a triple, Bo Belinsky's 3-run no-hitter, Jimmy Piersall ejected for arguing the first pitch of the game, and more. This 21x15" pen and ink was a published piece in the Sporting News and auctioned by them several years back. One of the most important yet unsung baseball artists, Ray Gotto was creator of immortal baseball comic books "Ozark Ike" and "Cotton Woods." His high point was his work for the Sporting News, of which this piece was one. Ray was paid $1,000 for his creation of the New York Mets skyline logo, which has remained virtually unchanged to this day. Ray died penniless in 2003, the billion-dollar team refusing multiple requests for aid.
