This beautiful glove was game used by beloved Pittsburgh Pirate Willie Stargell during his rookie year in 1963. Stargell grabbed a cup of coffee with the club in '62, but '63 was his first full season with the team. He did little to distinguish himself as a future Hall of Famer that year, batting a pedestrian .243 and hitting only 11 home runs from over 300 at-bats. It wouldn't take long before he broke out, however, as the next year became his first as an everyday player and he promptly earned an All-Star selection. From there, Stargell became one of the most prolific power hitters of his era. He finished his career with 475 home runs, many of them Ruthian blasts that enraptured teammates, fans, and opponents alike. Stargell won his only NL MVP award in 1979, toward the end of his career, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1988. The Rawlings model XPG 8 glove shows at least a year of use, and is made for the right hand, so as to free up the left hand for throwing. Stargell's number "8" appears in vintage faded marker on the wrist strap, while his name can be found in the same vintage faded marker on the outside of the pinky finger. Glove has been photo-matched to August 11, 1964, at Forbes Field for HYPO (Help Young Players Organize) fundraising game between Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Pirates.
