Famed Notre Dame Halfback Johnny Lattner captured the Heisman Trophy in 1953, as well as the Maxwell Award in both 1952 and 1953. These were some of the tools of his trade, originating from the early 1950s, all of which were obtained from Chet Grant, who curated equipment and items for the university. The helmet is a MacGregor and is all-original with chin strap. It shows nice use and features the inscription: "Notre Dame Helmet Leahy Era," and then is identified with older type stick-on letters "JOHNNY LATTNER." The gold pants bear some stains and tears from wear. There is a lace-up fly with King O'Shea and W.O.W.O tagging, size 34 long. This terrific, historic lot also includes a small, vintage signed photo of Lattner with the Notre Dame backfield. The 1953 Fighting Irish finished 9-0-1 and second to Maryland in the AP national poll. Lattner rushed for 651 yards and scored nine touchdowns, caught 14 passes for 204 yards, had four interceptions and tallied two touchdowns on only 10 kickoff returns.
