Presented annually for outstanding service to hockey in the United States, this edition of the prestigious Lester Patrick award was giving to Lou Vairo in 2000. The weighty trophy is on a 5x7" wood base and stands 11" tall in total, with Boffey sticker on bottom and plaque reading "Lester Patrick Award Lou Vairo 2000." A stalwart in US hockey for six decades, Vairo has coached at every level including as an assistant in the NHL with the New Jersey Devils, and several stints coaching the national team. Among his highlights, he was also a scout for the legendary 1980 "Miracle on Ice" team, and he is also in the US Hockey and International Ice Hockey Federation Halls of Fame.
