Graded by PSA NM-MT 8. Simply amazing. Presented is arguably the most important hockey card ever manufactured, a fresh to the hobby, recently graded 1966 Topps USA Test Bobby Orr rookie card. Widely regarded as one of the greatest hockey players of all time, and like Lawrence Taylor did for the linebacker position in the National Football League, Orr changed his sport by redefining the parameters of his position. By the time Orr was eighteen years old he exhibited superb speed, phenomenal stickhandling and tremendous defensive prowess. He played offense while actually playing defense, was that "five-tool" type player, and as he showed during the 1970 Stanley Cup Finals, Bobby Orr always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. While Orr was making his long anticipated NHL debut, Topps released a limited quantity TEST ISSUE which closely mirrored their regular release. The differences in appearance were slight with a lighter wood grained surface as well as a reverse that only revealed a text in English as opposed to English and French. Issued only in the United States, it is believed the issue was mainly confined to areas of the south as well as California, neither of which were viable hockey markets before NHL expansion. We imagine the honchos at Topps thought, "if these hockey cards sold in those two areas, they would sell anywhere in the country!" This offered specimen is a superb example of the Topps USA TEST Bobby Orr, with many MINT qualities. The well centered example has pristine surfaces, uninterrupted gloss and evidences zero handling. Graded by PSA NM-MT 8, this card is one of SEVEN at the NM-MT level.....with FOUR grading higher at NM-MT+ 8.5. The 1966 TOPPS USA TEST set is extremely scarce compared to its regular TOPPS counterpart, evidenced by population total of only 87 USA TEST Bobby Orr cards ever submitted to PSA, while a total of 704 regular TOPPS examples have passed through the PSA doors. Leland's is proud to introduce the hockey card hobby's most desired relic, a true modern era scarcity, fresh to the hobby....and one of the nicest examples extant.
