Chock full of information, this pen & ink illustration by Willard Mullin - the Dean of sports cartoonists - bears the date of December 3, 1947, a mere two days before the Heavyweight showdown between Joe Louis and Joe Walcott. Telling the story of Louis' dominance, it speculates that Walcott was an unlikely candidate to stop the seemingly-timeless march of the Brown Bomber. The 15x19" piece is in VG-EX condition and was somewhat prophetic, as Walcott dropped the aging Louis twice in the early rounds before losing a controversial 15-round decision. Just six months later, the rematch would not be as dramatic, with the same victor, only this time by an 11-round knockout.
