Joy and youthful exuberance burst from this photo of Roberto Clemente from his 1955 rookie season. The 7x9" photo is an original Type I, and one we have not seen before, featuring the star in mid-leap. The bottom left corner was torn and fixed with tape on verso, there is a small crease at the top left corner, but it's otherwise in very nice condition. The signature, inscribed "To Mother. With Love, Roberto," is 5-6/10 in ink but does not contrast well with the dark portion of the photo where it is signed, though it remains very readable. Very significant not only because it is to his mother but also because it was signed during his first year in the majors, it also had great provenance - obtained years ago by legendary Puerto Rican baseball collector Yuyo Ruiz directly from the family. Comes with PSA LOA.
