To honor the 35th anniversary of Secretariat’s record-setting victory in the 1973 Kentucky Derby, Woodford Reserve produced 99 of the world’s most expensive mint juleps, offered to attendees of the 2008 Kentucky Derby. Demand for the $1,000 drink was fierce, some pre-sale auction prices driving the cost well above the advertised price. The sterling silver cup in 24kt vermeil wash is numbered #10 of 99 and features a sterling sipping straw and a full-color medallion reproduction of LeRoy Neiman’s Secretariat 35th Anniversary artwork. The cup comes with an oak box crafted from the same wood as Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels and is lined with custom-designed satin depicting the pattern of Secretariat’s blue and white silks.
