A magnificent, imposing Neoclassical-designed funeral urn from the Greco-Roman period, this was created for a beloved race horse from 1850s Britain. It is truly a work of art, executed in elegant bronze with a distinctive ebony wash. Three-dimensional images, including several large winged angels and cherubs, are seated around the cup portion of the urn with horse heads, fruit, and other appendages incorporated into the design hanging from the bottom at the base. In ornate stunning detail around the base of the urn itself is an embossed racing scene complete with a clubhouse and horses racing bronze for a loved unknown horse, Tudor Revival Style with Horse Heads, a low relief of the race, trumpeting Angel Handles, crenellated Crown Shields and a rowing figure finial, unmarked; but a top, top bronze maker. The top is a vigilant woman with a spear. Piece has a good heavy patina, in great condition, except for one trumpet missing from handle. The height is 15.25" and it weighs 12 pounds.
