The origins of the porcelain enamel sign was actually European, first in Germany then Britain and other parts of Europe. This attractive British sign is from the early period 1890s to 1900 when the art form of porcelain or enamel signs featured layers of powdered glass that were painstakingly fused, color by color, onto a base of heavy rolled iron. Interesting name for a British manufacturer of leather or "English Oak Bark". Heavy duty sign which hung above the shop, made by the Imperial Enamel Co Ltd. located in Birmingham, England. Measures 15x24" has small areas of rust or deterioration, but still achieves an excellent presentation.
