Six years to the day after Gaylord Perry notched his 2,000th career strikeout, the right-hander fanned the Dodgers' Joe Simpson for his 3,000th K as he joined one of baseball's exclusive clubs. Here's the ball with which he made history, becoming just the third pitcher at the time to reach that elite plateau, following Walter Johnson and Bob Gibson. This very historic ball is one of a select few of its kind ever to be sold. It is an official National League (Feeney) baseball showing nice game use. In vintage ink, it is notated by Perry: "3,000" on the sweet spot, "10-1-78" on a side panel and "Joe Simpson LA" on another panel. This is quite a historic baseball!
