On October 1, 1972, in his last start of the season for the Indians, Gaylord Perry tossed a complete-game, 11-inning 2-1 victory over the Yankees in the Bronx. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Perry struck out Rusty Torres for the first of his 11 strikeouts on the day, giving him 2,000 for his career. This is the ball with which he achieved the feat. The official American League (Cronin) baseball shows nice use and Perry has written in vintage ink on the sweet spot: "2,000." It is also signed in 8/10 ballpoint pen. The Hall of Fame righty went on to whiff 3,534 batters over his 22-year career.
