This is the first we have seen of this rare "Fight of the Century" photo album, a 48-page publication which is more like a fight program than anything else. This is "An Album of 81 Photographs of the World Championship Contest At Carson on March 17, 1897. From A Series of Pictures Taken by F.H. Bushnell Official Photographer." Published in San Francisco, but there is an added paper sash affixed at the top that reads, "Issued from the 'REFEREE' Office Sydney N.S.W. Price One Shilling and Sixpence." This was sold in Australia (hence the rarity) under the auspices of their top boxing magazine, "Referee." Condition is not the best, as it has missing pieces and separated covers, but the insides are complete and this is the rarest of of the rare so good luck finding another in any condition. It measures 14x10" and has a fascinating back cover photo of the "Newspaper Men at the Con Virginia Mine." Surrounding are cartoon caricatures (by Tad?) showing Bat Masterson (outlaw turned writer) joined by boxers such as Tom Sharkey and the great John L. Sullivan. Fascinating!
