An original painting by Ernest Hamlin Baker is offered here, used to create the August 7, 1939, cover of TIME. Charcoal-pencil and gouache on heavy artist’s board, it shows a masterful image of Woodward. He stunned the racing world as the owner of Triple Crown winners "Gallant Fox" in 1930 and "Omaha" in 1935. His horse "Johnston" won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont in 1939. The piece itself measures 9" x 10.75”, and is archivally matted to 17" x 17.75” overall. Artist's notes on back of painting: #3 Woodward
