This photo is from Max Schmeling's U.S. Tour of 1933. The Germans had just banned Jews from boxing and U.S. fans and citizens were irate. Schmeling and Joe Jacobs went ahead with the tour anyway and Bangor, Maine, responded by covering the balconies with American flags (as seen). Silver gelatin print with crystal clean contrast is signed by all four. Interestingly German propaganda puppet Max Schmeling is posed next to local Jewish boxer celebrity and boxing trainer Charlie Miller in this 8x10. To his left is Jack Dempsey who is refereeing. Miller trained Dempsey so perhaps favors were exchanged. Schmeling has his arm around a nervous Eddie Cormier. Superb photographic content. The photo has wear around the edges, and some small creases, but image is stunning with EX-MT signatures.
