The Silver Sluggers were first handed out in 1980, and this was the 22nd American League award, presented to outfielder Juan Gonzalez. Created by the manufacturer of Louisville Slugger bats, this 33"-tall award reads: "HILLERICH & BRADSBY CO. SILVER SLUGGER AWARD PRESENTED TO JUAN GONZALEZ-OF CLEVELAND INDIANS MEMBER OF THE SPORTING NEWS AMERICAN LEAGUE OFFENSIVE TEAM 2001 JASON GIAMBI-1B BRET BOONE-2B, ALEX RODRIGUEZ-SS, TROY GLAUS-3B, MANNY RAMIREZ-OF, ICHIRO SUZUKI-OF, JORGE POSADA-C, EDGAR MARTINEZ-DH." It is in EX condition with slight tarnishing to the bat, which is angled and set against a black composite, with the Louisville Slugger emblem at the top. It is signed on the back (smudged) in silver Sharpie with inscription referencing his "original Silver Slugger." "Juan-Gone" batted .325 in 2001 with 35 homers, 140 RBI and a .590 slugging percentage.
