Even though the first official NHL All-Star Game would not be played for another 10 seasons, there were several "unofficial" games played before that. Boston Bruins goaltender Tiny Thompson played in two such exhibitions, the final one coming in 1938, when he was given a charm that was made into this 10 Karat gold ring with 2-point diamond. The face reads: "NHL ALL-STAR" in between crossed hockey sticks and a giant star housing the diamond. The left shank reads: "1ST TEAM" and the right: "1937-38." The size 10.5 ring is in EX-MT condition. Tiny Thompson - whose real name was Cecil - played a total of 12 pro seasons between Boston and Chicago and was a four-time Vezina Trophy winner. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1959. The first All-Star game in hockey actually predated the NHL, when the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association had an All-Star Game on January 2, 1908 in memory of Montreal Wanderers player Hod Stuart, who had drowned.
