On July 4, 1931, Max Baer met Paulino Uzcudun in a Heavyweight bout. Uzcudun would win by decision in 20 rounds of boxing. This is the first heavyweight bout of any importance in Reno since [Jack] Johnson defeated [James] Jeffries on July 4, 1910. Some 18,000 people attended, "virtually equaling the normal population of the city," according to the New York Times. Presented here is an original souvenir pin from this event. The circular medal at top lists the fighters, date and venue. The ribbon denotes Jack Dempsey as the referee. The ribbon has a mild fold and there is some soiling. Pin firmly attached to the back. Several tears and some fraying. A rare pair of souvenirs, among the few we have seen. 2" x 5 1/2".
