Jack Delaney was not Irish as one might suspect from his surname but actually French Canadian. His birth name was Ovila Chapdelaine and he hailed from St. Francis du Lac, Quebec, Canada. He was a light heavyweight champion and one of the most popular fighters in the 1920's. This collection of original SF Examiner and wire photos (31) date to the 1920's and the vast majority contain the original caption sheets which are taped to the versos. They range in size from 3" x 6" to 8" x 10" and in condition from GD to EX plus with the majority VG. The images chronicle his life and boxing career throughout the 1920's. Included is a tale of the tape image for his bout at MSG March 14, 1924 vs. Paul Berlenbach, the AAU wrestling champ. The fight was billed as "The Wrestler versus The Boxer" which Delaney won. There are also images relating to his fights with Nando Tassi, Jack Sharkey , Bud Gorman and Jimmy Maloney. A super photo lot.
