Tremendous collection of 1940's New York Yankees baseball wire photos (87). The Yankees won four world series during this era with Joe DiMaggio roaming center field including 1941, 1943, 1947 and 1949. Photos range in size from 5" x 7" to 8 1/2" x 11" and in condition from GD-MT with many in EX. One shot from September 26,1949 shows Yankee catcher Ralph Houk, still clenching the ball, violently pointing to the plate claiming he tagged Red Sox runner Johnny Pesky before he scored the seventh and ultimate winning run for the BoSox. Also pictured in this home plate melee is Casey Stengel, Yogi Berra, Bobby Brown and Joe Page. Red Sox went on to win this game 7-6.
