On July 4, 1919 Jack Dempsey stopped Jess Willard in a completely one
sided affair in Toledo, Ohio to win the World Heavyweight
Championship. Dempsey’s victory coupled with his exciting style of
fighting ushered in a new era of boxing which became part of the era
known as the “Roaring 20’s.” Dempsey’s popularity was immediate. Many
companies wanted him to endorse their products and many were looking
for ways to attach themselves to the new champion. Offered here is a
post fight poster for the Dempsey-Willard fight used to advertise
Cressman’s Counsellor Cigars. The poster includes three large action
photographs from the Dempsey-Willard fight and full length photos of
each fighter. This poster is cardboard measuring 20 x 23". It is in
overall excellent condition with some minor staining. This is the only
version of this poster we have seen to date.
