Early in the 1971-72 season, Poul Popiel worked out a deal with the Houston Aeros of the newly formed World Hockey Association. In Houston, he finally found a stable home as a blueline regular for six seasons. But by 1978, he felt he’d had his fill of the WHA. This pair properly displays is run with the Aeros. The first of the pair is a road, blue Rawlings jersey from the 1974-75 season. Rawlings size 48 tagging in the collar. P. POPIEL sewn in white on to a blue nameplate on the back. Dark stick marks on the front below the alternate captain’s ‘A’. Stick marks on the front hem striping. Back of right sleeve is caked in thick board burns. Additional board burns on the front of the upper right arm. Board burns and paint transfers galore on the back right side. Long elastic fight strap with clip at the bottom with adjustor for length right above clip. Appearance of a material swatch being sewn over the alternate captain’s ‘A’ – possibly for a temporary captain’s ‘C’. A hammered WHA gamer. The second offering is a road, blue Stall & Dean jersey from that final season in Houston – 1977-78. Stall & Dean tagging in the collar along with “7” year and size 50 fly tags in the back neckline. Dark stick marks scattered across the front with an un-repaired hole on the striping. Light stick marks, paint transfers, and scrapes on both sleeves. Back shows some sweat stains in the midsection with P. POPIEL sewn onto a knit nameplate. Loop style fight strap with metal adjustment tab in back
